Juggling It All: The Beauty and Struggle of Being Multi-Passionate

woman on computer

Picture this: It’s Christmas Day, and I’m crying on the couch.

Charlotte is napping the house smells like leftovers from a big breakfast, and I’m sitting there, completely caught up in this show called Black Doves. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s intense, emotional, and full of twists. I was hooked.

By the end of the episode, I had tears streaming down my face. I turned to my husband and said, “It’s hard to be a mom and a spy.”

We both laughed because, of course, I’m not a spy. (Though some days it feels like I’m running covert operations just to get through my to-do list.) But the truth of those words stuck with me. That moment on the couch—on Christmas Day, no less—really made me think about what it feels like to juggle so many roles, all at once.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re living multiple lives at the same time, you’ll know exactly what I mean.

The Push and Pull of Being Multifaceted

Here’s the thing: I love my life. I love living near my family and being able to show up for the people I care about. There’s something so grounding about being close to home, where you can feel the love and support of the people who know you best.

But there’s another part of me—a big part—that’s a free spirit. I dream about wandering the cobblestone streets of Europe, sipping a cappuccino at a little café, and soaking up all the beauty and culture the world has to offer.

I want to be here, deeply rooted in love and connection. But I also want to be there, exploring, expanding, and chasing after the big, bold life I know I’m meant to live.

It’s not just about travel, either. I want to be the present mom who’s there for breakfast and bedtime stories. And I want to be the ambitious entrepreneur who’s building something meaningful and making an impact in the world.

I don’t want to choose—I want it all. And that’s where things get messy.

Why It’s So Hard

There’s this tension that comes with being multi-passionate. Society loves to tell us to “simplify.” To pick one thing and focus on it. Be the perfect mom or the successful entrepreneur. Stay close to home or chase your dreams of adventure.

But what if we said, No, I’m all of it?

That’s where it gets tricky, right? Because being multifaceted is a gift, but it’s also hard. Some days, it feels like I’m crushing it. Other days, it feels like I’m falling short on all fronts. The guilt creeps in—am I spending enough time with my family? Am I giving my business the attention it needs? Am I making the most of my life?

The Desire for More

Here’s the thing: if you’ve ever felt like you’re asking for too much, let me tell you—you’re not.

This desire for growth, adventure, and fulfillment? It’s part of who we are. Psychologists call it self-determination theory. It’s the idea that humans thrive when we’re pursuing things that bring us joy, purpose, and a sense of autonomy.

For people like us—people who are multi-passionate, big-hearted, and full of dreams—that desire isn’t just a whisper. It’s a roar.

And while it’s beautiful, it’s also a lot to carry. Balancing all of these roles—the mom, the entrepreneur, the dreamer, the free spirit—isn’t easy.

Lessons from the Couch

As I sat there on Christmas Day, crying on the couch, it hit me: this way of doing life doesn’t come with a roadmap. But over the years, I’ve learned a few things that help me navigate the chaos (and even find joy in it):

  1. Life Happens in Seasons
There are seasons when family is front and center—when bedtime stories, holiday traditions, and quiet moments together take priority. And there are seasons when my business needs my focus, or when my free spirit craves adventure. The key is to stop trying to do it all at once and instead ask, What matters most right now?
  2. Support is Everything
For so long, I resisted support. Now I know it’s the opposite. Whether it’s leaning on my husband, asking family for support, or outsourcing what I can, I’ve learned that support is a non-negotiable.
  3. Perfect is Overrated
Spoiler: no one has this all figured out. Not me. Not the moms on Instagram. Not the business gurus. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s showing up as your full, messy, authentic self and knowing that’s enough.
  4. Honor Your Desires
This one’s big. I’ve learned to embrace the push and pull between being grounded and being free. I can love living near my family and dream about that summer in London. I can be a present mom and build a business that lights me up. It’s not about choosing—it’s about creating a life that honors all the parts of who I am.
  5. Your Kids Chose You
Someone once told me that your kids chose you. And that means they chose the true version of you. So the adventurer, the dreamer, the business owner, the career woman, the luxury traveler. So it’s okay to be you. They can handle it. That’s what they’re here for.

An Invitation for You

So here’s my invitation: take a moment to reflect.

  • What roles are you juggling right now?
  • Which ones bring you joy? Which ones feel heavy?
  • How can you give yourself a little more grace in the middle of it all?
  • How can you step into being fully you? Even it is means you are the mom and the spy. 😉

You don’t have to have it all figured out. You don’t have to be perfect. And you’re not alone in feeling like it’s messy and complicated.

But here’s what I know for sure: being a multi-passionate, multi-dimensional woman is worth it. Even on the hard days. Even when it feels impossible.

So here’s to us—the moms, the entrepreneurs, the dreamers, the free spirits. The ones who are figuring it out as we go.

I’d love to hear from you. What roles are you balancing right now? How do you navigate the push and pull? Hit reply and share your story—I’d love to connect.
