I want to share a little story with you that happened earlier this week. It’s one of those moments that made me stop and think, and I hope it resonates with you too.
Picture this: I was in full-blown “go” mode – you know the one. I was knee-deep in launching my new program, the Dream Life Method. I was brainstorming for an upcoming podcast episode, hopping on social media to engage with my community, wrapping up an onboarding meeting with my new agent, AND drafting ideas for a keynote speech.
Sounds like a lot, right? That’s because it was. And let me tell you, my mind was running at full speed, but not in the best way.
That evening, during bath time with my daughter (a moment I usually treasure as a time to connect and be present), my husband looked at me and said something that stopped me in my tracks:
“You have a really long career ahead of you. You don’t have to do everything at once.”
Wow. That hit home.
I realized I wasn’t just overwhelmed; I was operating from a place of fear and lack. Deep down, there was this little voice whispering, “If you don’t do it all now, you’ll fall behind.” Or worse, “What if you don’t have enough time to accomplish everything?”
Have you ever felt that way? Like you’re racing against an invisible clock, cramming as much as you can into your days, afraid that if you don’t hustle harder, you’ll somehow miss your chance?
Here’s what I realized in that moment: that’s not how I want to build my dream life. My dream life isn’t about doing more or being busy just for the sake of it. It’s about intention, joy, and sustainability. And most importantly, it’s about trusting that there is enough time.
Why Do We Feel This Way?
Did you know that research shows over 60% of people report feeling like they don’t have enough time to get everything done? In our fast-paced world, where “hustle culture” is often glorified, it’s no wonder we feel this constant pressure to do more.
But here’s the thing: operating from a place of constant urgency can lead to burnout, decreased productivity, and even health issues. Studies have shown that stress from overwork can lead to insomnia, weakened immunity, and reduced mental clarity – the very things we need to achieve our goals.
And the fear of not having enough time? That’s a scarcity mindset in action. It tricks us into believing we have to sprint through life, but the truth is, success is a marathon, not a race.
Shifting From Fear to Faith
If you’re feeling stretched thin, I want you to pause and ask yourself:
- Am I making decisions from a place of fear or faith?
- Am I trying to do too much because I think I don’t have enough time?
- What would it feel like to trust that everything I desire will unfold in the right timing?
The truth is, operating from fear and lack doesn’t serve us. It drains our energy and takes us further from the joy and freedom we’re working so hard to create.
Practical Ways to Shift Your Mindset
Let’s make this tangible. Here are a few ways to step out of the overwhelm and into alignment:
Prioritize with Intention: Not everything on your to-do list is urgent. Research suggests that focusing on just three key tasks each day can increase productivity and reduce stress. Choose the tasks that align most with your long-term vision.
Practice Time Blocking: Studies show that batching similar tasks and allocating specific blocks of time for them can boost efficiency by up to 80%. For example, dedicate one hour to emails and another to creative work, rather than switching back and forth.
Embrace Support: You don’t have to do it all alone. Whether it’s delegating, leaning on loved ones, or hiring help, support systems are a game-changer. Remember, even the most successful people have teams and mentors behind them.
Take Care of Your Energy: Research has shown that regular exercise, proper hydration, and mindfulness practices like meditation can significantly improve focus and reduce stress. Are you building habits that sustain your energy?
Remind Yourself of Your Vision: Your dream life isn’t built in one day. It’s built with consistent, aligned action over time. Keep your goals in sight, but release the need to rush.
Permission to Slow Down
I’ll leave you with this: Take a moment today to breathe, reflect, and trust. You’re exactly where you need to be. And your dream life? It’s waiting for you… one intentional step at a time.
If this message hit home for you, I want to hear about it. Hit reply and let me know how you’re choosing to slow down and trust the process this week.
Cheering you on always,
