I work with women all around the world and so often I hear them admit that there’s one thing they really hate being asked…
How’s everything going? What are you up to? How’s your job/business?
I can relate. I remember not so long ago, every time my dad asked me how a job was going or what I wanted to do with my life, I clammed up. I wanted him to be proud of me, and as an entrepreneur, I looked up to the life and business he had created. I wanted to follow in his footsteps, but for a while those goals felt really far away.
I remember one trip in particular not so long ago, where I avoided the questions at all cost and felt ashamed that I still hadn’t figured “it” out. That was was a horrible feeling – one I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
The truth is, I spent much of my twenties dreading those questions. Even though I knew deep down that I was meant for something big, I struggled for far too long with how to make my “something big” a reality, and career shame was an all too familiar feeling for me…
That is, until I decided that I’d had enough – that I could no longer just wait and hope for life to finally get good.
Everything changed for me when I made the decision to take massive action on behalf of my dreams by investing in myself and overhauling my limiting mindset. I decided to just go for it and give my dreams a shot – instead of waiting for the perfect time or for all the pieces to come together naturally.
That decision changed everything.
Now, I no longer dread being asked about my job or my plans. In fact, I actually love sharing about my business and my dreams when family or friends ask, and I’ve been able to exceed even my own wildest expectations…
For instance, this past week I hosted a mastermind and networking event in NYC at The Plaza (see my personal pics in this email!), and my mom, dad, and sister came to support me.
It was a surreal experience to have my family there meeting my clients and colleagues. I overheard quite a few of the ladies who attended telling my dad that I’d “changed their life”. And I have to admit, that felt pretty amazing.
Quite a contrast, right?!
I share all of this to let you know that if this can happen for me, it can happen for you, too. After all, as I always say I’m just a girl from Ohio with big dreams.
And those big dreams of yours, lovely? Those dreams are there for a reason, and they’re meant for you.
The thing is, you have everything you need inside of you to make your parents proud. You have everything you need inside of you to go after your own “something big” and exceed your wildest expectations too.
It all starts with making the decision to take that first step in the direction of your dreams.
Imagine how amazing it’ll feel when your family asks you what you’re up to, and you no longer have that hint of shame lurking in your response. Instead, you speak with confidence about your goals, your next steps, and your successes along the way. Imagine how it would feel to introduce them to your own clients! It’s possible…!
So, whatever it is that’s keeping you small, holding you back, or giving you that life and biz shame, I want you to know that you have the power to take action to change it.
