I’m on a mission to set you up for success in 2016 so tune in over the next few weeks to get all of my juicy secrets starting today…
First, let me ask you a few questions: Do you ever observe your thoughts? What about the words coming out of your mouth?
One of the key steps to getting the life and business you’ve always wanted is making sure that your thoughts and words align with your goals. Otherwise, you won’t be setting yourself up for the big things I know you’re so meant for, lovely.v
As women, we’re often so critical, and say things to ourselves that we’d never dream of saying to a best friend, and those words are creating our reality.
Here’s an example…
“I suck at sales. No one is going to buy from me.”
“I’m fat. These pictures are going to be awful.”
“There’s no way I’ll get that client. She doesn’t have the money.”
Sound familiar?
But that doesn’t have to be the playlist that’s going through your mind. Here’s the opposite example…
Last night, James and I were watching X Factor, and the competition was down to four finalists. When one of the contestants was talking to her vocal coach and said: “This is the song that’s going to get me into the finals”.
Talk about certainty. The way she said that showed so much confidence – like she already knew getting into the finals was going to happen. She was speaking the words that she wanted to come true – not the other way around.
That’s what I’m talking about.
And guess what? She did make the finals.
The same idea applies to running a business and reaching your own goals as well. You have to use language that reflects what it is you want to achieve.
And the first step in doing that is to be aware of what you’re thinking and saying.
One of the exercises I like to have my clients do in the very beginning of our time together, is to observe their thoughts for at least 48 hours on something like Evernote or a the Notes app on their phones.
If you’re anything like me (and my clients!) what you’ll discover about your language is pretty shocking, but don’t worry, there’s a way to change this way of thinking…
Once you know what you’re dealing with in terms of your thoughts and words, I’d encourage you to start to create a new playlist. Start to consciously think and say new phrases that reflect what you want to happen.
It may feel a bit strange at first saying things like “This client will sign up with me”, and it might feel like a white lie, but say it anyway and saturate your mind with positive thoughts.
It’s like when you’re losing weight – sometimes it isn’t about cutting things out, but instead adding in something new so you aren’t hungry for (or thinking of in this case!) the bad stuff. Make sense?
Give it a shot this week, and be on the lookout for success and opportunities coming your way!
