I stumbled upon this Jim Carrey speech and immediately loved his story and the wisdom of his words.
He talks about the fact that quite often, we hold ourselves back in an effort to make practical decisions, but in actuality, we’re really just scared.
Carrey calls this “fear disguised as practicality”.
So many women come to me and say, “Well, what if it doesn’t work out? I’ll be risking my time and money and just end up where I started. I’m scared of making the wrong decision.”
I totally get this. When I was planning to move to London, I was well-aware that it was the most impractical decision. I didn’t know anyone in the city and had to take out thousands of dollars worth of loans to make it happen. I was scared and worried for months, but I knew that if I didn’t take action then, I probably never would, and I would regret not doing it. Now I can honestly say that it was the best decision I’ve ever made.
Fear is a completely valid reaction when trying something new, and sometimes things don’t work out, but does that mean you shouldn’t try at all? No!
Carrey speaks to this as well when he says, “You can fail at what you don’t want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love.”
So what about you? Are you waiting for the right time to make a change or take a big step? Are you wondering if you should go for something a bit impractical? Are you making excuses instead of admitting you’re afraid? That’s ok; it’s never too late!
This week, just take one step towards your dream. Whether that’s planning a move, researching a program you want to know more about or signing up for a yoga class you’ve been wanting to try – just take action.
And remember, I believe in you!
